Japanese Tea Ceremony

Mr Adam Wojcinski was a welcome visitor to the College, demonstrating the Japanese tradition of the Tea Ceremony.

Mr Adam Wojcinski from Nexus Arts visited the College on Friday 22 May to demonstrate the ancient Japanese art of the Tea Ceremony.

Students undertaking Japanese as their Language were involved in one of three sessions held during the day. The first part of the session involved Adam (who dressed in traditional Japanese Samurai costume) speaking about the distinctive and ritualised movements that take place during the Tea Ceremony, as well as the history and culture associated with this tradition. He then demonstrated the making of the tea - from boiling the water, to cleansing the bowls, to brewing the leaves and finally serving the tea to a guest.

Following the Tea Ceremony all the students were treated to Japanese 'treats' that are traditionally served with the tea. Adam was a wealth of knowledge and was able to make his presentation informative, interesting and enjoyable.
