Kokoda Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to Year 11 students Kelsey Cuttriss and Ginger Kleehammer who have been announced as the successful applicants for the inaugural Arthur Grassby Scholarship.

This scholarship, named after local resident and Kokoda Trail survivor Arthur Grassby, is an initiative by a local committee and supported by local businesses, RSL sub-branches and organisations. Applications for this scholarship were open to Year 11 students from across East Gippsland with applicants having to submit an essay of 600 words or more on the theme 'What the Kokoda story means to me'. These were then assessed and applicants were shortlisted for interview. Both Kelsey and Ginger were announced earlier this week and will now take part in training and fitness programs prior to the trek in July this year.

The Scholarship Committee President, Mr Tim Bull, made the following statement at the launch of the scholarship: "Arthur is just one of the many Gippslanders who served on the Trail, many losing their lives and the scholarhsip is aimed at informing and educating our youth on the sacrifices that were made. What better way to do it than on the Trail following in their footsteps."

We look forward to following the progress of Kelsey and Ginger during this extraordinary experience opportunity.
