Keys Please - Year 10
Year 10 students recently attended a presentation by a representative from Vic Roads on obtaining a Learner’s Permit. The presentation addressed issues pertaining to the graduated licensing system such as preparing for the challenges of driving and managing risks as a new driver. The presentation was interactive and well received by the students – many of whom are preparing to obtain their learner permits.
The Year 11 & 12 students attended a presentation by a representative from Latrobe Community Health about potential risks associated with gambling. Whilst we tend to think of gambling as a choice made by adults, one in five of those who have a problem with gambling started to gamble before they were eighteen. Furthermore, we are aware of the profusion of gambling promotions targeting young people, received via the internet, video gaming, mobile phones and also television. Exposure to the risks associated with certain behaviours provides students with knowledge that enables them to make informed choices and how to recognise problem gambling and help friends.
