Students get dairy creative in the kitchen

Nagle College students have been whipping up a storm in the kitchen, thanks to the Great Ocean Road – Careers made here – Cheese Your Own Creation program.

In teams of two, students designed an imaginative dairy creation. They then developed a recipe of their new creation, the recipe and photo is submitted to be judged. 12 lucky recipes will be selected for inclusion in the 2019 Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Calendar.

Cheese Your Own Creation involved 50 schools from across Australia. It is offered as a curricular activity within the school’s Food Technology classes.

Students and teachers are provided with supporting resources and curriculum for the duration of the program. Each school receives a $100 Coles gift voucher to purchase Great Ocean Road products and is provided with a copy of the 2018 Warrnambool Cheese & Butter calendar for creative inspiration.

“Through the program students gain an understanding of the dairy industry, the nutritional value of its products, and the importance of the industry to regional economies – all while having fun in the kitchen. I’m excited to see what the students create and trying my hand at some of their recipes,” said Ms Wringe, Great Ocean Road’s Senior Brand Manager.

At the conclusion of the Cheese Your Own Creation program each student will be awarded a certificate in recognition of their hard work. The 12 winning creations will receive $250 for their school. The results will be announced on 19 October, 2018 with prizes presented to the winning schools and students.
